GravitHy awards CAP INGELEC EPC contract for Fos-sur-Mer electrical substation

A key infrastructure milestone on the path toward Final Investment Decision (FID).

GravitHy has awarded CAP INGELEC an EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contract for the design and construction of the electrical substation that will supply power to its future low-carbon iron production facility in Fos-sur-Mer, France.

The substation will play a critical role in the project by ensuring the transmission and distribution of electricity across the site, including to the electrolyzers that will produce renewable and low-carbon hydrogen, as well as to the Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) production unit.

With a total capacity of approximately 1.15 GW, including nearly 720 MW dedicated to electrolysis, the installation will provide the power required to operate one of Europe’s first large-scale low-carbon iron production plants.

Under the agreement, CAP INGELEC will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of the substation, covering the connection to RTE’s 400 kV transmission network and the distribution of electricity at 33 kV across the various industrial units of the future site.

The contract represents another important milestone in the development of the project. It enables the launch of detailed engineering studies, the progressive procurement of long-lead equipment, and further strengthens the project’s readiness ahead of Final Investment Decision.
