At GravitHy, we are proud to announce the completion of the first engineering study phase for our future plant in Fos-sur-Mer. This milestone confirms the economic, technical, environmental, and regulatory feasibility of our project, which will involve an investment of €2.2 billion and create over 3,000 jobs.

A structuring step for our project

Over the past three months, more than 50 engineers have worked on this phase, representing an investment of over €3 million. We now have a validated site layout and a reliable project schedule. The next steps include launching the first tenders and continuing environmental studies in coordination with the National Public Debate Commission.

Our Ambition: Accelerating Steel Decarbonization

Starting in 2028, we will produce low-carbon metallic iron in the form of DRI (Direct Reduced Iron) pellets, which will be processed on-site into HBI (Hot Briquetted Iron). These products will supply the growing global market for green steel, meeting the needs of sectors such as automotive, wind energy, and construction.

GravitHy is the missing link in the steel industry and the partner of choice for European steelmakers to accelerate their transition to sustainable production.
— José Noldin, CEO of GravitHy

A strong impact for Fos-sur-Mer and its region

Our plant will actively contribute to revitalizing the local industrial ecosystem:

  • Importing 3 Mt/year of iron ore and exporting low-carbon HBI by sea
  • Creating synergies with existing industries in the Marseille port area
  • Generating over 3,000 direct and indirect jobs
  • Partnering with schools and universities to develop new training programs for students and professionals

GravitHy will make Fos a global model for industrial decarbonization.
— René Raimondi, Mayor of Fos-sur-Mer

A European and global ambition

This plant will be the first of many. Given the growing demand for low-carbon steel, we plan to develop additional DRI/HBI production units across Europe and worldwide.
