GravitHy-Fos: a pioneering plant on a European scale

The industrial site of Fos-sur-Mer, France, will host our first Hot Briquetted Iron production plant, based on low carbon hydrogen, which will also be produced on site by GravitHy. This project is part of a green reindustrialisation dynamic, supported by European and national policies for energy transition.

With a investment of +2.5 billion€, we aim to become a key player in the decarbonisation of the steel industry in Europe.

PlantEN
Import of iron ore. The ore is transported by sea to the mineral terminal of Fos-sur-Mer, then transported to the industrial site of GravitHy using a capped conveyor.
Storage area for iron ore pellets awaiting direct reduction, and HBI (Hot Briquetted Iron) storage awaiting export.
Direct reduction of ore. Iron ore and hydrogen are injected into the DRI tower (or reactor) for direct reduction of iron ore.
Water treatment and cooling unit.
Electrical substation and transformers supplying low-carbon electricity to the GravitHy industrial site.
Low-carbon hydrogen production. Up to 120,000 tons of hydrogen per year will be produced, via the electrolysis of water, powered by renewable and low-carbon electricity. The installed capacity of electrolysers will reach up to 750 MW.

A strategic location in the heart of southern France

Our future industrial site contributes to the revitalisation of the territory, the creation of skilled jobs and the ecological transition of heavy industry. Fos-sur-Mer was chosen for its many assets.

A multimodal hub at the heart of global flows

The maritime port of Marseille-Fos, located in a strategic maritime, fluvial and railway hub and having the necessary draught facilitating the import/export of raw materials and products.

A low-carbon, competitive and abundant electricity

Access to competitive green and low-carbon electricity in sufficient quantity.

An industrial ecosystem

A dynamic industrial ecosystem, with regional know-how and open to synergies and innovation.
